My name is Michelle Kinney and I am a portrait and lifestyle photographer in New York City! How'd I get here? It's a bit of a story...
Upon graduating from Syracuse University's Department of Drama in 2004, I signed with a talent agent, and boarded the Amtrak for New York City with 3 suitcases and $200 in my checking account. After working for more than a decade as a professional actor and singer, I began to transition my photography talents into a second career in early 2011. I've happily been behind the camera full-time since 2015.
My photographs have appeared in publications such as USA Today Modern Woman Magazine, Mic.com, The Advocate Magazine, Washingtonian Bride and Groom, Time Out New York, The New York Observer, and OUT Magazine. Additionally I photograph weddings as a second shooter for Laura Marie Duncan Photography.
I am also the creator of Nasty Women of New York. A photography blog designed to tell the stories of the incredible women of New York!
I am a proud member of Professional Photographers of America, National Press Photographers Association, and Nikon Professional Services.
A New York City resident, I reside in Manhattan with my husband Joe and our kitties Oliver and Sterling. When I'm not behind the camera I can still be found on stage from time to time, rummaging through the racks of my favorite vintage shops, or rallying with my fellow activists. I am a Daughter of the American Revolution and a former titleholder in the Miss America Scholarship Organization.
